Meet the Team: Louise Phillips

As EMED Group’s Social Values Manager, Louise has played a key role in the creation of the EMED Foundation from day one. She brings creativity, drive and a strong commitment to community impact, and she’s passionate about helping the Foundation grow into something meaningful for both colleagues and the people we serve.

What’s your favourite part of being involved in the EMED Foundation?
Setting up a charity from scratch has been a huge learning experience, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it grows and becomes embedded in our workplace. As EMED’s Social Values Manager, I hope to build and develop the Foundation into something that local communities can benefit from.

How would you describe the Foundation in three words?
Meaningful, exciting, life-changing.

Which of our funding streams do you feel most passionate about?
I’m always an enthusiastic supporter of anyone taking on a challenge, whether climbing a mountain, running a marathon or renovating a youth club, so if the Foundation can help make those challenges happen and add extra motivation, then we are doing well. I’m also keen for our colleagues to get involved by raising funds to support these grants, and I’ll be on the lookout for new and exciting ideas, as well as making it as simple as possible, with the salary sacrifice scheme, for example.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying for a grant?
The opportunities for the Foundation to give grants are endless, no one should hesitate to apply if they think it can help boost awareness or raise funds for a good cause.

What motivates you outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m really motivated by getting time to disconnect, especially by the sea. There’s something about being near the water, under a blue sky, that really clears my head. I love stepping away from screens and noise and just being present. It helps me reset, stay balanced, and come back to things with a fresh perspective.

I love walking and exploring new cities, and have just been on my first Extreme Day Trip, with more planned.

What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?
I started having golf lessons recently, and let’s just say… I’m definitely no Tiger Woods yet!

Do you have a favourite book, film or podcast that inspires you?
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, where a young woman has the chance to explore all the other versions of her life before deciding which one was the right path to take. I was lucky enough to meet Matt and tell him how much I enjoyed it. I’m fascinated by the parallel universe theory and that there could be countless versions of “you” living different lives in different universes.

Finish this sentence: “The EMED Foundation is…”
…available to all colleagues, and we look forward to supporting and making a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.
