Meet the Team: Francesca Cawood

Francesca is EMED Group’s Internal Communications Manager and plays a key role in supporting the Foundation’s communications. From storytelling to signposting, she helps bring the work of the Foundation to life, and is passionate about connecting people to its mission.

What’s your favourite part of being involved in the EMED Foundation?
Watching it grow from the idea of a colleague to a fully-fledged registered charity, and knowing how much support there is for it, is a really heart-warming testament to community and what good people can do when they put their heads together.

In the Communications Team, I have the privilege of sharing the stories of the fundraisers and of the communities that benefit from their work, in a way that hopefully will inspire action.

How would you describe the Foundation in three words?
Community-driven, community-benefitting, impactful (or is that five words?!)

Which of our funding streams do you feel most passionate about?
Thrive. The direct nature of the impact of Foundation funding on a vital local community project, enabling it to be set up or to continue, makes that funding stream particularly appealing.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying for a grant?
Go for it! The trustees want to enable as much community benefit across the four funding streams as Foundation funds permit. Include as much information as you can in your application about how the money will impact, that’s what they want to see.

What motivates you outside of work?
Connections. I love being with family and friends, talking, listening, learning, laughing.

What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?
I make a good Negroni. A splash of grapefruit juice is my secret.

Do you have a favourite book, film or podcast that inspires you?
Donna Ashworth’s To the Women. It’s a collection of wise poetry and prose that reminds women to embrace their strength, voice and worth.

Finish this sentence: “The EMED Foundation is…”
…just the start. We want you to take a Foundation grant and make it grow, to deliver the most meaningful impact on our communities.
