Meet the Trustees: Andrew Rivett

As a National Trainer for EMED Group, Andrew brings passion, energy and frontline experience to the Foundation’s work, and the idea for the EMED Foundation actually started with him. We caught up with Andrew to hear what being a trustee means to him.

What’s your favourite part of being a trustee?
I’m able to make a difference.

How would you describe the Foundation in three words?
Supporting the community.

Which of our funding streams do you feel most passionate about?
I am passionate about all of the funding streams that the Foundation provides.

What’s one thing you’ve learned since joining the Board?
I’ve learnt a lot about being a trustee and also how much work it takes just to get to a launch.

What kind of impact do you think the Foundation will have?
It will provide a good foundation for the community where people have fallen under the radar because social services are unable to help. It will also help charities that support individuals who are unable to provide for themselves.

If you could instantly fund any project tomorrow, what would it be?
I would say it would be the Foundation, but also East Anglia Air Ambulance.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying for a grant?
Be open and honest about the reason why you are making the application.

Why do you think support for hardship or volunteering matters?
I feel that support for hardship is important, as there are a lot of people out there who suffer in silence and struggle to put food on the table. Volunteering is important because volunteers are the ones who give up their time — and if it wasn’t for them, many charities wouldn’t be able to run.

What motivates you outside of work?
I like to chill when I’m not working, as my full-time job is very demanding. Up to about two years ago, I used to volunteer for St John Ambulance, where I was an event first aider and also the district Fundraising Lead for Suffolk.

What do you do when you’re not wearing your trustee hat?
I am a National Trainer for EMED Group.

What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?
I am a proud uncle to three nephews and three nieces.

Do you have a favourite book, film or podcast that inspires you?
I like to read biographies, and my favourite film would have to be Police Academy.

Finish this sentence: “The EMED Foundation is…”
…to give support to the local communities by giving grants to charities or individuals applying for grants.
