As Treasurer for the EMED Foundation, Darren brings valuable financial insight and a clear passion for making a difference. We asked him a few questions about his role and what the Foundation means to him.
What’s your favourite part of being involved in the Foundation?
It’s just great to be involved in something non-work related that is for the sole purpose of helping people.
How would you describe the Foundation in three words?
Supporting worthy causes.
Which of our funding streams do you feel most passionate about?
Thrive is probably top for me, as it impacts multiple people in a local community and should provide long-term benefits.
What kind of impact do you think the Foundation will have?
I think it will have a significant impact in supporting people and projects and will grow over time to be a real force for good.
If you could instantly fund any project tomorrow, what would it be?
Any project related to environment, recycling, reducing waste, these are very close to my heart.
Why do you think support for hardship or volunteering matters?
Supporting hardship is clearly important because some people may be on the point of despair and it’s important to show that somebody cares and to give them hope for the future.
Support for volunteering is important to help people get their project off the ground, that otherwise might not even start.
What motivates you outside of work?
Supporting and spending time with my family is number one.
What do you do when you’re not wearing your Treasurer hat?
My job is Group Financial Controller, which keeps me very busy managing the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Management Accounting teams, and driving improvements in all of these areas.
What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?
Outside of work I like to ride motorbikes and vintage Italian scooters (which often break down).
Do you have a favourite book, film or podcast that inspires you?
My favourite book is also my favourite film, To Kill a Mockingbird, it’s all about treating everybody fairly and doing the right thing in all circumstances.
Finish this sentence: “The EMED Foundation is…”
A force for good, for individuals and communities that need a bit of support.
